What is a commodity supercycle?
There are certain periods of time that you really want to own commodities…
When they are in a long term uptrend.
Pretty much every year, you'll hear about some commodity getting a whole lot more expensive…
But at some point, prices correct and the move is over.
A supercycle is when we see multiple commodities across multiple sectors all trending higher together.
We've already seen gold, silver, copper, and oil prices move higher…
And we're likely going to continue to see higher demand with constrained supply for a while.
How long do these cycles last?
About 10 years.
The last major supercycle ran from roughly 2001 to 2011 — about a decade.
The one before that ran from the early 1970s all the way to 1982.
If we assume this cycle kicked off with COVID-19, we're about four or five years into this one.
Where in the cycle are we right now?
Gold rings the dinner bell. Silver and mining stocks follow. Then copper. Then oil.
You've already seen gold, silver, and copper hit new all time highs.
Energy just joined the party.
The sectors that haven't moved yet — agriculture, base metals, critical minerals — those are setting up right now.
