This would be a big change of character for the overall market, and especially the Consumer stocks.
It's not something I would expect to happen, which is why if it does, that would be a major blow to the health of the overall market, in my opinion.
But are the odds in favor of a major trend reversal?
Keep in mind, do you know how many of the U.S. Sector Indexes closed at new 3-month lows last week?
Zero.
There weren't any.
When sectors start to make new lows, we'll see who the key laggards are. In the meantime, it's still all about the Consumer in this "Consumer-driven economy" that we're in. So that's going to be front and center.
If you haven't been following along with what Jeff Macke has been saying, now's the time. He's my guy when it comes to all things retail and consumer.
You might be surprised to hear that Jeff didn't just "fall into" the retail world — he was literally born into it. At seven years old, instead of playing ball, he was touring Target stores with his dad, analyzing everything from product displays to how clean the floors were. It's no wonder he grew into one of the sharpest retail stocks analysts out there.
In the latest episode of Off The Charts podcast, Jeff opens up about how he spots trends early, why a company's story and leadership matter so much, and the unique lens he uses to evaluate retail and consumer goods opportunities.
If you're serious about understanding what really moves retail stocks, this is the episode you need to watch. Trust me, Jeff's take on things is always refreshing—and he'll make you look at the market in a whole new way.
